My name is Michael Broadhead and since 2005 I’ve have the privilege of teaching at international and private schools in the UK, Taiwan, China, Singapore and Canada. During that time I primarily taught sciences. I am a BC registered teacher and have now settled in beautiful Victoria and undergone training to tutor dyslexic students using the Orton Gillingham approach. I enjoy working one on one with students of all ages and take care to provide personalized multi-sensory instruction that builds confidence and matches the student’s needs. This is an online course I developed to help restaurants make better plant-based menus.

I worked on Veganuary’s Singapore campaign for two years. The second year I coordinated volunteers, helped recruit some partners, and did some fundraising. Linked is the press release I helped create.

I researched and wrote this business guide to help restaurants in Singapore develop excellent vegan options.

Thanks to support from other animal organisations, I coordinated and edited content for a Singapore-specific vegan starter kit.

Earth Excursion

I worked with LooLa Adventure Resort in Indonesia to create an all vegan menu and weekend excursion. I led three trips which varied in size from 15 to 30 people participating. It is now a standard offering of the resort.

Animal Allies

I helped bring together the vegan community in Singapore to collaborate and do outreach. As the Volunteer Coordinator I helped develop outreach booths, organised meetings, and helped volunteers create new projects. The video shows highlights of the volunteer work.

Earth Film Fest

Earth Film Fest was Singapore’s (and the world’s) first crowd-based film festival. People could sign up to host a film in their home, classroom or office during Earth Week. I would send them the film and discussion guide, as well as tips to planning their event. The website is no longer up, but I have linked the press release I created for the first one.

EarthFest Singapore

I created and directed four editions of EarthFest in Singapore. We were the first to feature all vegan food at a large scale event in Singapore. Click to see a video overview.

Sustainability Through Chemistry

This was a project at my school to use Environmental Chemistry and Chemistry in Industry and Technology options as context for teaching the entire IB Chemistry course. The syllabus has changed since.

TrekCore

TrekCore is the Web’s largest and most frequently updated Star Trek multimedia resource. I started this in 2005 with a few other volunteers. I was webmaster until 2022 and it’s now going strong after passing it onto the next generation of volunteers!
